The Environment of Project Management

The Environment of Project Management :

The Project exist and operate in an environment that influence in the project favorable and unfavorable .

so there are two major project influence :

  • EEFS [Enterprise environmental factors ]

originate from environment outside the project and organization and be not under control of the project team , that influence in constrains or direct in the project .

its divided to two sectors :

internal to organization :

Organization culture -Organization structure -and governance .

the governance means the master company have others related company so it put the vision and mission and values to the other related companies .

geographic distribution facilitates , resources and infrastructure .

resource availability.

External to Organization :

market place [ market share - trade mark - competitors ].

social and culture [ethic - reception - conduct ]

legal restrictions [ low - employment -regulation ]

financing and commercial [interest rate - currency exchange - taxation ]

government and industry standards [ technical - safety - quality ]

physical elements [ working conditions - weather ]

the the second factor influence in the project :

  • OPAS [ Organizational processes assets ]

are internal to the organization itself and its consider [plans - processes- polices - knowledge ].

just for knowledge there are an expression called triple ps : it's plans - process- polices in the OPAS .

and OPAS established by PMO and tailored by him and his project team .

initiating and planning :

guidelines - standards -(quality - safety- etc )templates (plans-registers -estimating )

executing and controlling and monitoring :

metrics - work instructions - evaluation -reporting - issue and defects management - templates (reports- log )- validation .

closing :

project closure guidelines - requirements - deliverables - acceptance -contract closure

Organization knowledge repositories :

  1. configuration repositories[ hardware- software]
  2. financing repositories[ budget- cost overrun -financing ]
  3. historical repositories [ lessons learned - records - results ]
  4. projects files [ achieved previous projects ]
  5. issue and defects repositories [issue and defects resolutions ]

so we can any project manager not start from scratch , when be in this position can use the knowledge repositories and collect all the data .
