Uninterruptible power supply: its abbreviation for UPS and Its mean a power supply unit when the main power is cut off, we can also say that the UPS provides electric power when it is available and takes it out in the event of a main power failure, (it is a charge and discharge process in case of need)

Is there a machine like UPS ?

We can say yes in same idea (Generator ) which it supply the electrical Power but by solar or Gas .

  • the difference between UPS and Generator : 
twice make generation electrical power process in case cut off main power but :
in generator case : its supply electrical power with irregular frequency so lead to damage more of Equipment which pull up electrical current so be better to be  for the electric source for huge mechanical loads  but the UPS its a great power supply source with high quality .
the Generator starts by continuous current motor and because of its many shortcomings was invented UPS which convert the continuous current to alternative current directly by using transistor .

what is a transistor :




its an old semi-conductor and more item uses in electrical circuit , consist of four layers from silicon and arranged in shape P-N_P-N and have three sides .
Anode - cathode - Gate and its aside which connected to the layer which near from cathode .

  • transistor cases :

Forward : when the voltage on anode be positive compared with Cathode .
Reverse : When the voltage on anode be negative compared with cathode voltage .
so we can says in the forward case , the voltage be positive in the gate so the transistor in close case .
and when the voltage be 5v in the gate , the transistor in connected mode and no voltage drop between anode and cathode so the current follow from anode to cathode because the Resistance of transistor is very low .
So the UPS system depends on transistor which its convert the DC Current to AC Current and its knows (inverter ) .

in continuous work case : 

in case feeding the heavy loads like hospitals and factories , the ups connected with the generator to compensation the reducing in the voltage in starting the generator , it must be taken in account the output frequency from the generator to be suitable to doesn't occur the failure of synchronization between the UPS and the generator .

work in needed case : 

feeding the power in case cut off the main power so the UPS starts for feeding process .

The alternating current is converted to alternating current and stored in the battery until the DC current, the DC current to convert it into alternating current and feed the load.
